Ya, I ♡ a PHILISTINE!

My little Q&A with owners
Colleen Ramage and Aaron Doucet
#1 When/how did you come up with the idea to open the store?
When I was in school my business partner and I started collecting clothing and reselling it on a small scale as a hobby (online and in pop-ups) and as it began to grow, we saw the potential.

#2 How would you describe your store?
I describe Philistine as bridging the gap between old and new - we carry those vintage pieces that can't be beat - plaid button ups, work boots, Levi's cut-offs and denim jackets - but we merchandise them with new items. Modern raw denim, fashion forward separates, and fine leather goods. The future of our world will include more re-purposing of used items, and right now fashion is a microcosm of this movement. We encourage people to cull elements of their wardrobe from wherever they find inspiration and create something entirely their own.

#3 Why the name “Philistine?”
In modern English a 'Philistine' is one who is uncultured, or ignorant, so we're poking a bit of fun at the general public's perception of someone who is interested in fashion being unintelligible.

#4  Whats your fav item for the summer?
Jean cuts offs - where 'em everyday (almost)

#5 where do you get your inspiration from (influenced by)?
Inspiration is such a strange concept, because there's not one thing I can point to that is guaranteed to inspire, it just kind of happens. Although, if I'm in need of a little kick, I'll mull over pictures of my favorite icons (Charlotte Rampling, Ushi Obermaier) or just go for a bike ride/walk, listen to music and let my mind wander.

#6  How long does it take you to get dressed in the morning?
Honestly it depends on how much time I have, I can get ready in a hurry, no problem! But if I have a whole afternoon to prep, I'll use that entire time trying on a million different things. Bottom line is, don't give me time alone with my closet, because it could take all night.

#7 who would you punch in the face, dress and fuck?
Punch in the face: people who don't move back on public transit - you're selfish and I punch you (in my dreams)

Dress: Lindsay Lohan - admit it, you need a stylist (anybody else see her at the Liz & Dick premiere?!)

Fuck: Ryan Gosling, maybe we re-enact some dialogue from The Notebook, nbd.

#8 whats the worst job you ever had?
McDonalds! The work itself was fine, but I'm pretty sure everyone on staff hated my guts! It was my first job and it taught me that coworkers can make or break any experience.

#9 Where do you see yourself/store in 5 years?
It's so hard to imagine what the next five years will bring - bigger store, bigger operation, just staying the course I suppose. For myself, I guess just trying to find a good balance between work and personal, because they're the same thing right now, which isn't necessarily bad, but balance is the goal.

#10 Whats one vice you cant live without?
 REALITY TV!!!!

◊▼☹* Q&A With LIL KIDS *☺▲◆

Q&A with Adam Kane a.k.a LiL Kids
#1 How many people are in your group?  LIL KIDS is my rap name but Nick Adams aka Lopato makes all the beats and I dont really ever plan on working with other producers so I guess we are a group but LIL KIDS is my name. It confuses people.

#2 How would you describe your music? Our music is pretty much like golden era hip hop but with lots of old psychedelic rock and garage samples. That's the kind of stuff i like to rap over and Nick bas gotten good at making beats that work with my style. The stuff we have been working on for our third mixtape is gonna have more recorded instruments.

#3 Why the name LIL KIDS?
I picked the name LIL KIDS because there are lots of LIL rappers and now lots of kid rappers so i just combined them and made it plural so it would confuse people when. they found out it was just my rap name and not the name of a group. Also its kind of creepy and pussy at the same time which i like.

#4 How many takes do you record till you consider it gold? I usually get verses done in about one to three takes i rap the verse out the whole time i write it so im familiar with it so when its time to record i got it down. The singing parts i do are usually one or two takes then nick polishes them with lots of effects cuz i suck at singing im not gonna be doing that on the new shit cuz i got some hot chicks who are gonna do it for me.

#5 Where do you get your inspiration from? My inspiration comes from experiences but a lot of it is just off the cuff. I go through periods where i can write a lot and then sometimes like right now i hit dry spots or just get overwhelmed by my personal life and can't focus on being creative. I like to drink a lot when i write it helps me not be so hard on myself.

#6 Which musicians influence you? We've been playing with a lot of other diy bands and they inspire me. My friends HAPPY LIVES go hard as fuck their drummer quit the day they had a show and they still played and fuckin killed it...that was inspiring. My friends in the band SURFING influence me to wanna snort uppers and drink vodka even though I don't do uppers I just drink the booze! Shouts to those guys. There are a long list of more well known artists that influence me, but they aren't my friends.

#7 Who would you marry, kill and fuck (dead or alive)?
I'd probably kill myself if the girl i want to marry wont have me.

- I want to marry a girl I've loved for a long time I'm not gonna name drop because shed probably get embarrassed if people knew she was involved with me.

- If i could fuck anyone dead or alive it would probably be Daphnee from scooby doo she's hot.

#8 Do you guys have any lil kids of your own? I don't have any kids Nick has four. Just kidding he has one. Gotchya he doesn't have any either. Maybe one day.

#9 Where do you see LIL KIDS in 5 years? In five years hopefully this blows up a little bit so i can quit my day job.  If not i don't really know. The only thing I'm good at is making fart noises with my hands but ever since the stock market crashed all those jobs are gone.

#10 What is your fast food, porn and alcohol of choice? Fast food of choice has got to  be burger king i seriously am getting a bk tattoo as im typing this. If anyone from bk reads this please sponsor me. I really like lego porno. And my favorite alcohol is probably champagne but all i really drink is shitty beer.

✖ MY ♡ FOR BrOOklYn & NY ✖

Here is a clip called "shit New Yorkers say." This should explain it all!

I  lived in NY City, specifically in China town and many times a week I would make that short journey over the bridge to shop, eat and drink my very much needed coffee in non other then Williamsburg! Here are a few things that I recommend if you wanna know what all the hype is about ... now give me a horchata and baby cake cookie☀

 GIRLS
No need to explain what this is!!
La Esquina ♒ The best place to get mexican food! The fish tacos are amazing... But if you go to La Esquina without getting their corn then you are a fool ...a FOOL! This corn is covered in yummy cheese and paprika goodness!

Beacons Closet  A great vintage store that is a MUST if you're walking around Williamsburg. Beacons closet has an awesome selection of vintage clothing, shoes, jewelry, purses etc.  The great thing about beacons is they allow trades... sooo you can walk in and trade your own old clothing or get money back ... well that is if they like what you got.

Okay Lets talk cakes... Maybe lets talk about mmmm BABY CAKES!!!

This little bakery at 248 Broome St is something you all want to hit up if you visit or live in New York. There are also locations in LA and Orlando.  Baby cakes makes delicious goodies and many are gluten and vegan free options. Everything is sooooo gooood from their carrot cupcakes to their savory scones, and ohhh the donuts and cookie sandwiches mmmmm..  The other great thing about baby cakes is that they have some pretty funny videos up on their website. Check out the link below... It's a video with  Erin Meckenna who is the founder and some of her great staff ... enjoy the laugh:)
